Dan is a Managing Partner, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Apis Capital Advisors, and serves as the Portfolio Manager for the Apis Capital Flagship and the Deep Value Funds. He splits his time between our Minneapolis and New York offices. Prior to founding Apis Capital in 2004, Dan was a Managing Director at J&W Seligman & Company, New York, New York, where he was a Portfolio Manager for the Seligman Emerging Markets Fund. He also assumed management responsibilities of the Global Smaller Companies Fund in April 2003.
Prior to J&W Seligman & Company, Dan worked for General Electric (“GE”) Investments in Stamford, Connecticut and London, England from 1994 through 1999. While at GE Investments, he was a Vice President and worked as a European Equity Analyst and Portfolio Manager for both emerging markets and international small-cap funds. From 1990 through 1993, Dan also worked in Corporate Finance for GE Information Services in Rockville, Maryland and London, England.
Dan received a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Wisconsin and is a CFA charterholder since 1996.
Eric is a Managing Partner and Founder of Apis Capital Advisors and serves as its Director of Research in our New York office. Prior to co-founding Apis Capital in 2004, he worked at J&W Seligman & Company as a Global Research Analyst covering the Industrial sector from July 2002. Eric provided investment research support with global portfolios in emerging markets as well as large- and small-cap equities. From 1997 through 2000, he worked at The Capital Group Companies, Inc. as an Equity Research Associate, responsible for Industrials, Chemicals, and Travel & Leisure industries.
Eric received his M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and his B.S. degree in Accounting and Finance from The Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School since 2013, teaching the “Applied Value Investing” course. Eric is a CFA charterholder since 2000.
Richard is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for Apis Capital Advisors. Based in our New York office, he has served as the Chief Financial Officer since 2011 and Chief Compliance Officer since 2014. Richard has been with the firm since July 2006 and previously worked as a Trader. Prior to joining Apis, he worked at Clinton Group Inc. in New York, a multi-strategy hedge fund. From 2001 to 2006, Richard held a variety of roles in the operations, risk management and trading areas.
Richard received his M.B.A. from The Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University and his B.S. degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.
Will is the Director of Marketing & Client Relations for Apis Capital Advisors and is based in our New York office. Prior to joining Apis, he served as Co-Head of Marketing & Investor Relations at Kerrisdale Capital Management, a global long/short equity hedge fund. Will spent most of his career at Deutsche Bank, where he helped launch the inaugural Hedge Fund Relationship Management effort and served as a member of the Global Prime Finance Sales & Capital Introduction teams. During his tenure, he worked with several of the firm’s most important hedge fund client and institutional investor relationships.
Will received his Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in International Securities, Investment, and Banking from The ICMA Centre – Henley School of Business at The University of Reading, UK and his B.S. in Economics & Finance from Boston College. He is also a graduate of the General Course program at The London School of Economics & Political Science, where he studied International Economics & Economic History.
Robert is an Analyst in our Minneapolis office and specializes in the Healthcare sector, with a focus on small- and mid-cap biotech and pharmaceutical companies. Prior to joining Apis, Robert worked in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Minnesota where he authored an original study on the use of ventricular assist devices in cardiogenic shock. Additionally, throughout his academic career he has been a researcher in the Department of Interventional Neuroradiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital and in the field of Materials Chemistry at the University of Minnesota.
Robert received his M.D. from the University of Minnesota Medical School as well as a Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) degree and B.A. in International Relations from the University of Southern California. He is also a Level II Candidate in the CFA Program.
Matt is an Analyst in our Minneapolis office, serving as a sector generalist. Prior to Apis, Matt worked as a Treasury Manager at H.B. Fuller, a global manufacturer of adhesives, where he was responsible for mergers & acquisitions, foreign currency hedging, and competitive intelligence. From 2008 to 2013, Matt was a Senior Equity Research Analyst at Craig-Hallum Capital Group, a Minneapolis based broker-dealer, covering the small-cap Consumer sector as well as special situations. Previously, Matt worked as a Hedge Fund Research Analyst at investment consulting firm Jeffrey Slocum & Associates (now Pavilion Financial).
Matt received his B.S. in Finance from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management and is a CFA charterholder since 2010.
John is an Analyst in our New York office, serving as a sector generalist. Prior to Apis, John worked as an Equity Research Associate at Stifel Financial, covering primarily small- and mid-cap companies across the Technology supply chain. From 2014 to 2016, John was a Management Consultant at Capgemini based in New York, where he worked on a variety of client engagements primarily in the Financial Services and Insurance industries.
John received his M.B.A. and B.S. in Finance from Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business. He is also a CFA charterholder since 2018.
Joseph is an Analyst in our New York office, serving as a sector generalist. Prior to Apis, Joseph worked as a Senior Analyst at PSQ Capital, a multi-billion-dollar family office based in New York, primarily covering equities across the U.S., Europe, and Asia markets for more than eight years. From 2011 to 2013, Joseph co-founded a technology start-up specializing in Augmented Reality (AR) and gesture recognition.
Joseph received his B.S. in Finance from The Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University. He is also a CFA charter holder since 2017.
Michael is a Trader based in our New York office. Prior to joining Apis, he served as a Middle Office Specialist at KLS Diversified Asset Management, a relative value, fixed income investment firm with over $3 billion of client assets. Previously, Michael worked as a Swaps Analyst for Och-Ziff Capital Management, a globally diversified multi-strategy hedge fund manager with more than $30 billion in total assets under management.
Michael received his B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University.
